Welcome to
la reina
Founded in 1958 by Mauro Robles, La Reina began as a family owned business that specialized in making flour tortillas. Mauro's determination to bring customers a diversity of authentic Mexican products became a reality within several years. Our business prides itself on providing the highest quality & innovative tortillas, flatbreads and Artisan snacks. It is the philosophy of La Reina to service our customers by working with them as a true partner to develop new products, recipes and eye catching packing.
From our humble beginnings, La Reina continues to grow and diversify into multiple product lines, channels and offerings as a family owned and operated business.
In 1943
Mauro Robles came to the United States under President Roosevelt’s Bracero program and got his first taste of the American Dream. He embraced it wholeheartedly, as the 1950’s saw him earn his citizenship and settle his young family in Southern California. He soon realized the only things missing were the tastes of his native Mexico.
In 1958
Mauro’s insight and entrepreneurial spirit led to the founding of La Reina. Through the years, La Reina's growth continued and expansion occurred. By 1961 as demand for La Reina Tortillas continued to grow, so did the need for more space. A new building was purchased and operations moved to Ford Blvd. in Los Angeles, where we continue to operate to this day.
In 1978
La Reina expanded into tortilla chips and taco shells with the acquisition of Anitas Mexican Foods. In 2013, Anita's moved into our new state of the art facility in San Bernardino, California. Since that time our sister company, Anita’s, has become recognized for the production of snack foods on the west coast. Click here for more.
In 1989
La Reina, alongside 14 other tortilla manufacturing companies, spearheaded the formation of the Tortilla Industry Association (TIA) with a clear vision in mind. As the tortilla industry became the fastest-growing segment of the baking industry, TIA emerged as a beacon of support and guidance. Its mission centered on supporting its diverse membership, which includes manufacturers, suppliers, and distributors worldwide, in navigating the complexities of management, marketing, and regulation.
In 2006
La Reina is named Tortilla Manufacturer of Year by Snack Food & Wholesale Bakery magazine. This coveted title recognized La Reina for its swift turnaround, diverse product range, and unwavering commitment to customization. Our feature in the magazine showcased our dedication to innovation and customer satisfaction, solidifying our position as a leader in the industry.
In 2008
La Reina celebrates its 50th anniversary and founder Mauro Robles turns 85 years of age.
